The SFB 1078 participates annually in the Berlin Science Week as part of our public outreach efforts. This year, visitors young and old were again able to learn about our research topics at the Natural History Museum. New learners gained familiarity with the fundamentals of spectroscopy via interactive installations set up by members of our Integrated Graduate School (IGK), a main experimental method used in our research collaborative to study the protonation dynamics of proteins. They also were able to see protein crystals with a microscope and interactively learn about these proteins. Some of the authors of the various posters displayed were available for explanation and questions from the public. This year, spokesperson PIs Prof. Joachim Heberle (SFB Project B3) and Prof. Ramona Schlesinger (SFB Project B4) also attended our booth (pictured).

We thank the members of our graduate school for another successful year of communicating biophysics to the public, and look forward to the SFB’s final participation in the Berlin Science Week at BSW 24.
